Taking it Easy!
Recently at Thanksgiving I was introduced to an older couple from New Jersey. They had moved to Florida now that they are retired and were really enjoying their southern migration. They mentioned that they both were experiencing slight foot and back pains.
They went out and purchased comfortable shoes but that didn’t stop the pain. I asked them what kind of floors they have in their home. They said it was tiled with beautiful ceramic floors in the living and kitchen areas. They said they walked around barefoot, but didn’t think that would be the cause of their problem. But it was!
Tile and natural stone can be really hard on your feet, knees, hips and back. Unlike carpet, there is no carpet pad to absorb the shock between you and the hard, un-yielding floor. This couple had a home up north with vinyl in the kitchen and a mix of hardwood and carpet throughout; all of these flooring products are much easier on the body. Finally, it made sense to them about their tile floor.
Their problem was that they loved the look of their tile floor . . . as much as it hurt them. They were wondering whether they were any other flooring options. Lots of choices, I said. Flooring manufacturers have created several flooring solutions that are both beautiful and easy on the body. Cork, laminate with cushion, vinyl, linoleum and carpet are all great flooring options.
We spoke about the vinyl tile the most and how similar it looked to real tile. Vinyl tile is made with textured features and shading much like a natural tile but is softer on the body and is very durable. The vinyl tile is easy to install and relatively inexpensive. We talked how vinyl tile could be an elegant solution for their issue and maybe assist in stopping future body pains. They both would start looking to make the change as soon as they could.
