Taking it Easy!

Taking it Easy!

barefoot-walk

Recently at Thanksgiving I was introduced to an older couple from New Jersey. They had moved to Florida now that they are retired and were really enjoying their southern migration. They mentioned that they both were experiencing slight foot and back pains.

They went out and purchased comfortable shoes but that didn’t stop the pain.   I asked them what kind of floors they have in their home. They said it was tiled with beautiful ceramic floors in the living and kitchen areas.   They said they walked around barefoot, but didn’t think that would be the cause of their problem. But it was!

Tile and natural stone can be really hard on your feet, knees, hips and back. Unlike carpet, there is no carpet pad to absorb the shock between you and the hard, un-yielding  floor. This couple had a home up north with vinyl in the kitchen and a mix of hardwood and carpet throughout; all of these flooring products are much easier on the body.  Finally, it made sense to them about their tile floor.

Their problem was that they loved the look of their tile floor . . . as much as it hurt them. They were wondering whether they were any other flooring options.   Lots of choices, I said.  Flooring manufacturers have created several flooring solutions that are both beautiful and easy on the body.  Cork, laminate with cushion, vinyl, linoleum and carpet are all great flooring options.

We spoke about the vinyl tile the most and how similar it looked to real tile. Vinyl tile is made with textured features and shading much like a natural tile but is softer on the body and is very durable.  The vinyl tile is easy to install and relatively inexpensive.  We talked how vinyl tile could be an elegant solution for their issue and maybe assist in stopping future body pains.  They both would start looking to make the change as soon as they could.

At ProSource of Orlando, there are over 25,000 flooring choices at every budget level.  If you are interested in vinyl tiles, please stop by and take a look.

The Little Things!

The Little Things!

cabinet-recycling-bin

Are you in the process of renovating your kitchen?  It is easy to envision beautiful new cabinets, countertops and shiny new appliances and budget for them but a lot of renovations miss the little things. Be sure to remember all the little things we take for granted every day.  Here are just a few things to consider:

Drawer and cabinet pulls:  Amazingly these are not always included in the cost of your kitchen redesign and sometimes that is a good thing. Standard kitchen pulls can be pretty boring and there are many choices out to choose from.  Customized, whimsy or sleek designs are all available to the homeowner and can really make a difference in the overall look of your kitchen.

Recycle bins: Cabinet manufacturers and designers are now giving options and consideration for homeowners who recycle. Instead of ugly yellow bins, homeowners can now camouflage your recycling efforts within your cabinets. Harding Home Cabinets offers a multi-bin cabinet where the bins pull out to make sorting much easier and neater.

Miscellaneous Cabinets: If you are a baker, you may want a skinny cabinet for your baking sheets or serving trays.  Appliance junkies may want to utilize hideaway features like roll downs hideaway breadbox like cabinets or a heavy duty Lazy Susan for easy access.  The gourmet chef would be remiss without a deluxe spice rack instead of a cabinet.  Consider how you use your kitchen when making your cabinet choices and bring them to the attention of your cabinet designer.

ProSource of Pinellas County has a wide variety of cabinets and a certified cabinet designer who will work with you to create your ultimate dream kitchen.  Stop by the ProSource of Pinellas County Showroom today and see our beautiful cabinet selections as well as over 25,000 samples of flooring like hardwood, laminate, tile, carpet, backsplashes and more.   If you’d like more information on laminates, hardwoods, bamboo, carpet, tile, natural stone, or any other types of flooring, please contact ProSource of Pinellas County at 727-545-9935 or visit our website at www.prosourcefloors.com/pinellascounty.

FRENCH BLEED FINISHES

FRENCH BLEED FINISHES

whiskey

The latest finish in hardwood and laminate trends is called a French Bleed. This attractive finish takes a hardwood or laminate plank and tints the edges with a black or dark brown stain. While most French Bleeds are also distressed in some way, there are a few smooth styles where the effect is equally stunning.

A French Bleed hardwood or laminate is a perfect choice if you are trying to achieve a rustic look. The strong definition given by the edges being stained gives a charming character and adds interest to any room.  The French Bleed effect is stunning on maple hardwoods and other light hardwoods.

ProSource of Orlando carries several hardwoods and laminates with the French Bleed finish.  Our hardwood line Traditions has a gorgeous French Bleed choice among its five maples and four hickory samples.   Ask your ProSource Account Manager to show it to you and our other French Bleed samples.

TAKE YOUR SHOES OFF!

TAKE YOUR

SHOES OFF!

please-take-your-shoes-off

Should you really insist that your guests remove their shoes before entering your house? In Japan it is customary but in America it varies by household.  So what is the real deal? Does taking off your shoes really help or is it just a quirky request?

There are actually a lot of benefits to taking your shoes off before you enter the house. The first benefit and most obvious is dirt. Whether you have hardwood, laminate, carpet or tile flooring, you struggle to keep your floors clean and the added dirt tracked in by shoes adds to your vacuum time.  The most common dirt, sand can not only stain your carpets but lead to scratch marks on your hardwood floors as well. Grease carried in from someone’s shoes can “ugly” a carpet really fast.  Grout lines and hardwood planks can collect dirt and make your floors look grimy.

If you have decided to enforce a “No Shoe Policy”, make sure you have a plan of attack.  Provide your guests or fellow residents with a comfy chair or bench to remove their shoes. Have a place, an area, basket or cubby, for them to put their shoes. You don’t need anyone tripping over shoes or Fido having a new play toy or the shoes getting lost. You might even want to consider investing in some inexpensive slippers or socks for your guests.

Taking off your shoes can definitely help extend the wear- life of your carpet or hardwood floors keep your floors cleaner and protect your family from unwanted germs that might hitch a ride on someone’s shoe.

OLEFIN CARPET

OLEFIN CARPET

carpet-samples

Are you shopping for new carpet? You have carpet fiber choices in nylons, polyesters and wools.  Have you ever considered olefins? Carpets made of Olefin fibers, also known as polypropylene, have a couple advantages over the more popular nylon fiber carpets.

Nylon and olefin carpets are similarly constructed but olefin carpets offers some exciting benefits that will appeal to homeowners. Besides the normally low price of olefin carpets, it is fade resistant and cleans better than nylon carpets. Olefin carpets can withstand direct sunlight and harsh chemicals such as chlorine bleach without showing any fading of color. In fact, some olefin carpets can be spot cleaned with a solution of bleach and water which is unheard of in other types of carpet fibers.  Since olefin carpets are also mold resistant,  olefin carpets are ideal for screened in patio rooms or basement recreational rooms where moisture can be an issue.  Olefin carpets are shown in several styles but the most popular style is Berber loops in multi-colors and multi-levels.

The disadvantages to olefin carpets should be noted.  Oil based stains are hard to remove from olefin carpets. Since olefin carpets have a pretty low melting point, dragging furniture across your olefin carpet may cause some damage to the carpet. Olefin carpets also have a tendency to crush and mat if installed in very high traffic areas like hallways and stairs.

Olefin carpet is another great choice to consider when you are looking for the perfect carpet for your home and lifestyle. Ask your ProSource Account Manager about olefin carpets like Remington and check out how soft and beautiful an economical carpet can be.

Sisal Carpets & Rugs- Another Natural Choice

Sisal Carpets & Rugs- Another Natural Choice

sisal

Looking for something natural to add some exotic elegance to your home?  Try a Sisal Rug.  Sisal rugs come from natural plant fibers that are woven.  Extremely durable but also beautiful, a sisal rug can really enhance the look of any room in your home or office.

Sisal is naturally stain resistant and safe for pets and small children. A sisal rug will not show wear from traffic patterns like traditional synthetic carpets.  Often sisal will be combined with other natural fibers like wool to gain more natural benefits for the homeowner.

There are a few cons in using natural sisal. For instance, you won’t want to use it in a bathroom or kitchen as it doesn’t perform well in humid or damp areas.  Sisal actually absorbs humidity so while it will help moderate temperatures in other rooms it will not be ideal for wet areas.

Visit ProSource of Pinellas County to see and feel a sisal carpet.  It is a unique and beautiful choice that will really make a room look dynamic! ProSource of Pinellas County carries a large selection of other natural flooring choices like sea grass, bamboo, stone, goat hair and wools.
